A MEAT TOKEN is a small, circular disk, often blue or grey, made of fiberboard, used in Canada during World War II (around 1944-1945) as "change" for rationed meat, allowing people to buy smaller portions or save for later, representing a crucial part of wartime food control alongside ration books and stamps. These tokens, marked "CANADA," "MEAT," and "VIANDE" (French for meat) with a hole in the center, ensured fair distribution and prevented waste, with eight tokens equaling one meat coupon.
